Best Literacy Practices

 So what are best literacy practices for students who may have dyslexia?  

Students with Dyslexia need a Structured Literacy Approach that focuses on these key area

1. Pholology

2. Sound-Symbol Association

3. Syllable Instruction

4. Morphology

5. Syntax

6. Semantics.


In addition, these areas should be taught explicitly and systematically.  

They should also be spiraled or cumulative.

What's Happening in Georgia?

  As of May 2019, Governor Kemp signed Senate Bill 48 into law. SB48 provides for identification of and support for students in kindergarten through third grade with dyslexia Per Senate Bill 48, beginning with the 2020-2021 school year, the State School Superintendent shall establish a three-year pilot program to demonstrate and evaluate the effectiveness of early reading assistance programs for students with risk factors for dyslexia. The Dyslexia Pilot Program consists of the following districts: Charlton County School District City Schools of Decatur Jackson County School District Marietta City Schools Muscogee County School District Ware County School District      After reading and listening to the video, what is the main goal of Senate Bill 48?  Why was it established?  Please respond in the comments and we will discuss in our small groups at the next meeting.
